Dear makers of the Wire

inspired by the never relenting end-consumer, E.

I enjoy your show very much and find it very informative on a range of rather obscure and seldom legal activities. There are, however, some things I would like to complain about: this strange obsession with killing off all the interesting and/or nice guys. I find it very annoying and depressing.

When you first decided to kill Wallace I almost cried, since he was such a sweet, clueless kid. And then, when you went on to have D'Angelo strangled I was devastated for days (not counting the two weeks in advance due to having read spoilers on the internet), but eventually I recovered and got on quite fine for a while. Curiously enough, though, as soon as I had finally started to warm to Stringer Bell, you had him killed as well, and I'm slowly starting to sense a pattern here. So even though it really truly broke my heart when you guys got around to Bodie, I was somehow prepared. And although the street just wasn't the same without him, I grew hardened and thus was able to take the deaths of a couple of minor characters and hangers-on in my stride.

When Omar finally went down, I was able to remain strong and put my energies into comforting my mourning boyfriend and well, sad as it was, Omar really did have it coming for a long time (but that brat Kenard... - he's really starting to get on my nerves!). It was always kind of hard envisioning a happy and peaceful life of leisure for Omar. But such a shame, nevertheless.

I hope you see where I'm going with this. I feel that although I have been very tolerant and understanding through it all, there is one potential death I really could not handle.

So, please, please, please, I beg you - don't let anything happen to Sgt Ellis Carver! I might suffer a nervous breakdown and collapse and, being a self-employed translator, that is not really an option.

In the words of a rather famous Swedish indie-pop singer, Marit Bergman: "Please God (and everyone at HBO) - now that I found him, let me keep him!

Yours sincerely,

M.
